Mary Unson

Raised in the Adirondacks, the second of eight children in a close-knit family, Mary Unson moved to Florida in her early 20s to pursue a career in her chosen field of radiology. By this point, she had already begun to experiment with pyrography and, over the next 40 years, fell in love with the medium as her skills as an artist blossomed. Her early works were primarily burning other artists’ images as gifts for family and friends with some custom work through an unfinished furniture shop, which expanded her imagination as to how far she could take this.

Many years of life raising a family and working 9 to 5 kept her busy, but the dream never died. The words of her firstborn remained in her thoughts, “Mom, you’re always encouraging us to reach for our dreams; what are you waiting for?! You’re not getting any younger, someday your eyesight will go and your hand won’t be steady enough to burn a straight line!” So with the encouragement and support of her family and friends, she brings you her visions, burned into wood... the heirlooms that start with your generation.

She welcomes you to consult with her privately to discuss ideas about your custom piece—whether it’s unique jewelry, a tiny trinket box, a child’s table and chairs, a dresser or armoire, or a dining room table and hutch, she will create for you pieces you will be proud to pass down for generations to come.

How do you want your grandchildren’s grandchildren to reflect on your life?
